Staying safe · Lesson 3 of 4
Check before you sign
Signing is the moment that counts. Read what you're approving, every time.
To send XRP or change anything about an account, your wallet signs a transaction with your secret key. Apps and websites can ask your wallet to sign something, and a good wallet shows you what it would do before you approve.
Before you approve, check:
- What kind of transaction it is: a payment, adding a token, an offer, or something else.
- The destination address, character by character at the start and the end, not just at a glance.
- The amount, and which currency.
- Who is asking, and whether you started this yourself.
Sending to an exchange or another shared address? It may ask for a destination tag: a number that says which customer the payment is for. Leave it out and the payment may not reach the right account.
If anything is unclear, don't sign. Waiting costs nothing, and a validated payment can't be taken back.
